I am an experienced stick-maker based in Dorset with several years of
exhibiting my work throughout the country, and during this period, I
have received numerous awards and several Best-in Show positions with my
sticks. I am fortunate that I have been able to learn my craft with
help and advice from some of the best stick-makers in the country who
have taught me to make quality sticks using traditional techniques and
materials.
I make a large range of sticks, staffs, hunting crops and fishing
priests from a variety of materials to suit people with pastimes and
interests such as, Sheppard's, Horse riders, Hikers, Ramblers, Walkers,
Shooters, Anglers and collectors. I use antler, horn and various types
of timber to make the handles of my sticks. The most popular wood I use
for shanks is hazel, which I obtain from woods in Dorset. I also use
other woods such as holly, ash, sweet chestnut and various fruits such
as pear, apple and cherry.
My sticks are hand made using natural materials that vary considerably
giving each stick a distinctive and unique appearance. None of my sticks
are identical due to the subtle changes in the materials I use to
produce them.
I give demonstrations on making sticks at local shows and clubs and give
talks to interested groups on many aspects of this fascinating craft. Please contact me if you have any questions.
